The MGHA season calendar is updated with dates of clinics, evaluations, and practices. The season schedule will be released the week prior to the first games. Before the games begin, however, there are a series of important events to help us all prepare to take the ice. Please read carefully and reply to this email if you have questions or concerns.
Clinics
Clinics are open to all new and returning players. New players who are new to hockey are strongly encouraged to/should plan to attend all clinics.
- When: Sept. 11, 7:00 pm & 8:10 pm
- What: Skating Drills I & II
- Skating Drills I: Focus on essential skating skills for the beginner
- Skating Drills II: Additional skating focus building on Skating Drills I
- Who: New skaters only during the first hour followed by a second hour open to all players who would like to work on skating fundamentals
- Where: All of the following events will take place at Hartmeyer Ice Arena
Please arrive an hour before the first clinic to ensure that you will have enough time to get you gear on.
Week 2
- When: Sept. 18, 7-9 pm
- What: Skating with the puck, passing and receiving passes
- Who: New and returning players welcome
Week 3
- When: Sept. 25, 7-9 pm
- What: Shooting, basic defense, skating backwards
- Who: New and returning players welcome
Week 4
- When: Oct. 2, 7-9 pm
- What: Offensive strategy, positioning, icing, offsides, penalties
- Who: New and returning players welcome
Player Evaluations
In order to assure that we have the most competitively balanced teams possible, each player will attend two weeks of evaluations. Please note that these are NOT tryouts. You have a spot in the MGHA and will be on a team! Please make every effort to be at these evaluations.
Week 5
- When: Oct. 9 – 4:40, 5:50, 7:00, 8:10, 9:20 pm – players will be notified of their time slot
- What: Skills evaluations – players rotate through various stations in order for the evaluation team to better form teams
- Who: All players are expected to attend during their designated time slot
Week 6
- When: Oct. 16 – 4:40, 5:50, 7:00, 8:10, 9:20 pm – players will be notified of their time slot
- What: Evaluation scrimmages – scrimmage-style evaluation lets the evaluators see players in game scenarios to better form teams
- Who: All players are expected to attend during their designated time slot
- If you have them, please bring a numbered light and dark jersey
Roster Reveal and Challenge Games
Week 7
- When: Oct. 23 – 4:40, 5:50, 7:00, 8:10, 9:20
- What: Rosters will be announced and we’ll have our first night of challenge game scrimmages
- Who: All players should plan to attend
